Integrated watershed management scheme Shri Khatabhai Bhuva

Watershed management is a holistic approach which aims at optimizing the use of land, water and vegetation in an alleviate drought, moderate floods, prevent soil erosion, improve water availability and agriculture production on a sustained basis.

  • In this project water harvesting structure checkwall with desilting on stream flowing near village Juni chappri of Talaja taluka Bhavnagar District.
  • The village is situated on u/s of checkwall . The location of selected site is according to its latitude and longitude, based on Topo Sheet.

  • In this project watershed basin is developed, financed help by NABARD & CSPC organization with anchoring support of Bapa sitaram Village watershed committee .The scheme involves creating Micro water-shed basins in the designated area.
  • Micro level basins includes , treatment stream and intervention such as Renovation of chekdam ,Desilting of pond/chekdam,chekwall construction and agro forestry.
  • In this scheme 47% of the funds are provided as by NABARD 33% support from CSPC and the rest 20% is borne by the land owner.
  • CSPC also provides necessary exposure to increase awareness among people on benefits of water shed development.This project was started sepetember 2019.
  • CSPC also introduced it through SHG’s and Federations. Appropriate exposure .
  • The decision to implement watershed was taken by farmer family due to the benefits portrayed & the faith which the family had in CSPC organization and its programs.
  • Check wall constructed in this stream and increased water storage capacity 1200 cum .
  • In this project farmer is taken benefit from Desilting work they have taken 400 cum soil from this intervention and they spread this soil in farm and increase his soil fertility and production

After Intervention:

  • Increase in agricultural productivity and production.
  • income level analysis for household showed that there was incremental income of 50000/-in this year.
  • Cropping intensity increased by 10 % .
  • Average water table increased by 25 %.
  • Before desilting of checkwall water was available in monsoon season only. But after completion of work water is available up to half summer season.
  • Standard of living of farmers has increased as yield of more crops from per unit of land has increased which again has resulted in increased cropping intensity in village.

  • Mobile worth Rs8000
  • This change has enhanced their comfort level for a better lifestyle, gave their children better educational opportunities and also increased their asset base.

  • Soil retains moisture for longer period of time
  • Increase the yield of adjoining farms
  • Helps in breeding of agriculture friendly insects & creatures
  • Implement drip irrigation in whole field
  • Sinking a new bore well
  • Horticulture Plantation(Mango)
